Free Counseling Available for Soldiers and their Families

The VFW Auxiliary Post 7012 in New Freedom wants to spread the word that help is available to our soldiers and their families dealing with the effects of wartime services. Today, more American service members die by their own hands than at the hands of our enemies. Long, repeat deployments through more than a decade of war have taken an immeasurable toll on our nation’s newest generation of heroes. The VFW organization is committed to pushing for initiatives designed to curb military and veteran suicide and improve the delivery of mental health resources to our nation’s heroes. Through the “Give An Hour” organization, soldiers who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and their families can receive free help. The “Give An Hour” organization offers treatment for anxiety, depression, substance abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injuries, sexual health and intimacy concerns, and loss and grieving.   More information can be obtained at Another major resource to our veterans is the Veterans Administration’s “Veteran Crisis Line” at 1-800-273-8255.
